Jodie Sweetin Expresses Dissatisfaction Over Film Sale to Great American Family

Jodie Sweetin has voiced her displeasure after discovering that her new film, Craft Me a Romance, was sold to the Great American Family network, overseen by her former Full House colleague, Candace Cameron Bure. Speaking to PEOPLE, Sweetin expressed her astonishment at the acquisition of her film by the network, especially since she was not informed about the sale. "Often, actors like myself are in the dark about which platform will eventually acquire our projects. It was quite a shock to find out through media reports that Craft Me a Romance, an indie film I was part of more than a year ago, went to Great American Family," she commented. The 41-year-old actress further stated, "Though I am disheartened, in alignment with my commitment to LGBTQ+ advocacy, any earnings from this deal will be forwarded to LGBTQ+ focused charities." The film, set to debut on September 16 as part of the network's fall lineup, casts Sweetin as a proprietor of a charming craft shop. Her world is upturned when a rival store owner, played by Brent Bailey, delivers a challenging proposition – either she sells her establishment or risks being pushed out of the market. Other notable actors in the film include Maxwell Caulfield and Julie Brown. When Entertainment Weekly reached out for a comment on the matter, Great American Family remained silent. The addition of Cameron Bure to the executive team of Great American Family the previous year has not been without its share of controversies. A statement she made to The Wall Street Journal about the network emphasizing "traditional marriage values" and the limited representation of LGBTQ+ themes raised eyebrows. Bill Abbott, CEO of Great American Media, opined in the same dialogue that Hollywood is not adequately catering to "spiritual or faith-oriented content." Elaborating on her move away from Hallmark, Bure mentioned her intent to focus on deeper narratives. She said, "I aspired to share tales with a profound resonance. I was aware that Great American Family was driven by devout Christians aiming to champion faith-oriented shows and wholesome family entertainment." Cameron Bure's statements didn't sit well with many, with celebrities like Holly Robinson Peete, Maren Morris, and Hilarie Burton expressing their disagreement. Burton, in particular, termed Bure's comments as "disgusting." Sweetin, not one to hold back her thoughts, told Entertainment Tonight in the wake of this debate that she remains a firm supporter of both LGBTQ+ rights and the Black Lives Matter movement. "I've consistently championed love and equality for all," she asserted, "and when you have the means to make a difference, it's crucial to amplify your voice." https://fanaticsfashion.com/jodie-sweetin-expresses-dissatisfaction-over-film-sale-to-great-american-family/?feed_id=3234&_unique_id=650aa043b6f8e
